GAINESVILLE - The first birth of the new year arrived at 2:50 a.m. Thursday at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Hospital personnel said Candida Hornal and Richard Vetere are the proud parents of Jayda Rose Vetere, the first baby born at the medical center in 2009.
As the first baby of the year for the hospital, Jayda was showered with gifts from the medical center and local businesses.
Hospital personnel said baby Jayda is just under 20-inches long and weighs 6 pounds even. She was delivered via cesarean section.
